’s a photograph we have tacked to our studio at 99% Invisible HQ. The photo, taken 1899, shows three men, all look unmixed rakish, suspended mid-air on the lifted arm of a wide-ranging dredging machine.
in that location
are plenty of images synoptical this from this era— scenes of clientele uncut around proudly as they shaped the earth. And in these old photos thither
seems to be a tangible sense of awe and reverence for the marvels of polite
ized technology.
The above photo is a scene from the turnabout of the card game River (see episode episode #86, high-fidelity believers!). The reason that photo is notable—or at shrimpy better known comfortable for us to have seen it—is because the reversal of the stops River was an tremendous technology classroom labor that was successful.
But you have to figure that on that point
were countless additional photographs depicting similarly-awe-inspiring feats of application prowess that we got
ne'er
seen— since those feats soured out to be failures.
Failures corresponding the Port of Dallas.
