As I-Robots launches a new compilation series that celebrates the roots and influences of Italo Disco in Turin and the Piedmont region, the Opilec Music boss continues to offer up singles from it with special remixes and edits. Next up is an ultra rare, 1983 track from Jan Demis with I-Robots Reconstructions and a Flemming Dalum rework that will all be released for Record Store Day 2017.
Piedmont area native Flavio Demichelis began his career when he was just fifteen, playing keyboards with an Italian pop band "La Nuova Equipe”. It was in 1983 he recorded 'Preludio', his first solo 12” and one that brought together nine talented musicians including the drummer Roberto Testa. It was made at the request of the Disco In label that wanted to be a part of the Italo Disco market and has since become a much sought after tune that has made the man behind it something of a cult figure. After incredible research, Gianluca "IRobots" Pandullo was able to meet up with Jan in 2016 and got the official exclusive license to re-release this rare 12" after 33 years, as well as including it on the first volume of the "Turin Dancefloor Express" 2xCD compilation.
Up first is the Original 1983 vocal version, which is five steamy minutes of colourful and synth heavy disco. The chords are heavenly, the drums are funky and the whole thing really carries you away on a happy groove. The excellent I-Robots Reconstruction is slightly more neat, with bigger drums and more bite in the percussion, while the 1983 Reconstruction cleans up the original and adds reverb to give it a more modern sound.
As well as an instrumental of the original, Flemming Dalum also steps up to remix and flips the track into a fully cosmic deep space workout with big shooting chords, echoing percussion and multi-layered synths that all lift you higher and higher. The original vocals
remain in place for extra feel good vibes and it is a masterful new version as a result.
Once again here Opilec Music have hit the jackpot with a much sought after and classic Italo Disco bomb. [Opilec Music Flemming Dalum Rework ]
