HUTTO — A Hutto man has been arrested on charges of holding a driver at gunpoint in a local cemetery.

The incident started Aug. 10 as a man drove his car in the Lutheran cemetery at 550 County Road 135 in Hutto, which is adjacent to the house of the driver’s cousins, the arrest warrant said.

When Elmer Walton saw the car, he approached with a flashlight and a 9 mm handgun, the warrant said. Walton lives next door to the cemetery, the warrant said. The driver stopped and Walton tapped on the window of the vehicle and then “pulled his gun” on the driver, said the warrant.

Walton told the driver to get out of the car or he would “shoot him dead,” the warrant said. The driver told Walton that he was going to his cousins’ house but then Walton pointed the gun at the man’s face, according to the warrant.

Walton threatened to kill the man several times and then called 911 to say he was keeping the driver on the scene and that the driver would not be leaving, the warrant said.

A Williamson County Sheriff’s deputy who later interviewed Walton asked him if he would have shot the driver. Walton didn’t answer at first, but then said “he did not know,” according to the warrant.

Walton was arrested Aug. 10 on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and was released the same day after posting $20,000 bail
