Drought and heat accompanied the summer of 2012 and affected area cattle producers. Ponds and pastures dried up and many cattle producers had to sell their cattle early, driving down the price they received per head. The price of hay also skyrocketed and some cattle were killed due to prussic acid poisoning caused by drought stressed johnsongrass. Types of grass to avoid feeding cattle during a drought are highlighted.
