It was an uneventful night on July 31st when a violent thunderstorm suddenly struck the Twin Lakes Area, knocking out power to thousands of people in a five-county area and damaging a major commercial marina located on nearby Bull Shoals Lake. A KTLO reporter who was working late was able to contact personnel with two major electrical utilities, as well as the police chief for the town of Bull Shoals and an employee of the marina who had been caught in the storm. The storm, which turned out to be an unusual phenomena known as a microburst, destroyed several of the docks and tossed around hundreds of boats, but the extent of much of the damage was not known until daylight the next day.
