Episode 88 of Cut Me Some Slack was all about the cover version. Music from Cake, Soft Cell, Natalie Imbruglia, The Zutons, and Elvis Costello & The Attractions.
We kicked off the show with a Five Good/Five Bad of our own choices (some shockers in there) and we muse which was better - Bread or Cake? There's an interesting tale of how Soft Cell never made much money from Tainted Love despite it being a No. 1 single in something like 17 countries and we wonder why Marilyn Manson needs to shout so much?
The story behind the song 'Torn' is a long, windy one, but it made the writers of the aforementioned tune a shitload of money. NB's version is by far the best one. I slag off Mark Ronson for being good at copying other people but not much else. I don't see what all the fuss is about. That said, the original version of 'Valerie' from The Zutons is a belter. We close the show with the ever-awesome Elvis Costello and ponder "What's So Funny 'Bout Peace Love and Understanding?"
Enjoy the show...
