Episode 77 of Cut Me Some Slack was centered around the theme of "The Live Music Concert" and featured music from Talking Heads, The Band, U2, Prince, and Nirvana - quite the lineup!
We get all philisophical about David Byrne's 'Big Suit', and the art-rock movement, and how Talking Heads financed 'Stop Making Sense'.
To try and sum up The Band's 'The Last Waltz' isn't that easy but we briefly talk about how it all came together and the list of great artists who played the concert. We also talk about a little seen movie (well, at least less than 'Purple Rain') that Prince put out called Sign Of The Times. It's basically him being awesome live for a couple of hours...we played "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" which made me happy.
Next, was U2's great performance in "Under A Blood Red Sky" and we discuss (and disagree) the differences between the band then and the lumbering behemoth that they are now. We close the show a track from Nirvana's unplugged. When you watch the whole concert as a whole it really isn't what you were expecting from them. Great, nonetheless...
Enjoy the show!
