Another episode of Cut Me Some Slack for you...this week, I think, a really good one.
We featured music from Pop Staples, Solomon Burke, Mavis Staples & Jeff Tweedy, and closed the show with a classic number from The Staples Singers.
First up was a couple of songs from Pop Staples' 'Don't Lose This' album that was released earlier in 2015. The album was put together by Wilco's Jeff Tweedy and Mavis Staples with recordings that were made by Pops Staples just before his death several years earlier. A very cool record and a lot of interesting stories to go along with it.
Next up, a couple of tunes from the most excellent Solomon Burke. First, covering Dylan's 'Maggie's Farm' and then a live version of 'None of Us Are Free'. Not only a great singer, but you could say he lived his life to the full as well.
There's also a live version of CCR's "Wrote a Song For Everyone" by Mavis Staples and Jeff Tweedy and The Staples Singers took us home with 'Respect Yourself'.
Enjoy the show...
