I spoke with Tom Uren AC in 2007 just prior to his coming to present the Harry Boyle Memorial Lecture for the National Trust, "I'm 86! That's 86 springtimes!". We spoke about his role in WWII during which he saw Hiroshima bombed and was a prisoner-of-war on the Thai-Burma railway, his love for Gough Whitlam, and his work for the environment, heritage and the national estate. In this interview he pegged Peter Garrett, Anthony Albanese and Tanya Plibersek as future leaders, describing Albanese as 'like a son'.
