An old song called "Nature Boy" has the line "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return." Sounds like a valid sentiment. But the First letter from John adds an important piece at the beginning: "We love, because He FIRST loved us" (1 John 4:19). We look at the types of LOVE that 1 John contrasts and discuss why LOVE OF THE THINGS OF THE WORLD (1 John 2:15-17) fails to deliver the love in return that we're all seeking. God's Love for Man, Man's Love for God, and Man's Love for Man are all vital components of any discussion of Biblical LOVE. But getting the order right is paramount. We explore why.
