What on earth is a "help-meet"? Or maybe your translation of Genesis 2 just uses "helper." Does a picture of a 1950s housewife cooking and cleaning in her circle skirt and heels pop into your mind? If so, you've missed the meaning and power of Genesis 2. What we actually find is a God-designed reciprocal relationship between Adam and Eve. And part of our misunderstanding comes from poor translations of the Hebrew words "ezer kenegdo," which in fact portray a spouse as something much more powerful than a "helper." And so we examine the Bible's original marriage text and its importance for all other marriage thoughts.
