Many Virgin Islanders are counting down the days, to Judge Wilma Lewis’s decisions on September 26th 2014 that will permanently grant or deny Senator Alicia Hansen’s request to be on the November 2014 general election ballot. Never has the Virgin Islands witnessed such a standoff between the District Court and the VI Supreme Court. The days of elected officials operating above the law in the VI must cease, and this was the impetus that sparked http://www.viactiongroup.org/story.html
a group of citizens to take action in 2012. VI Action Group Inc. took a stand against the VI Board of Elections who was attempting to certify Senator Alicia Hansen outside the rules of the Revised Organic Act and other applicable Virgin Islands law.
Attached is a link to Senator Hansen’s radio program that was aired on Saturday September 6th 2014 . During this appearance and subsequent appearances, there were a number threats and heavy handed vitriol directed towards a wide range of individuals in our small community. Imagine this reprehensible behavior from a lawmaker. No individual was safe from the intimidation, threats and deep gutter comments. On the receiving end were Pastors, Sitting elected officials , Senators, private citizens, The League Of Women Voters , The St.Croix Deputy Supervisor of Elections right down to one of the judges (Maria Cabret) who sat on the three judge panel that heard the initial complaint in the VI Supreme Court.
Late last week there was a new filing in the VI Supreme Court on behalf of Adelbert Bryan by attorney Emile A Henderson III . The filing ask that the Court enforces its August 29th 2014 Order ordering Fawkes to remove Hansen from the 2014 General Election Ballot (this after District court-Judge Wilma Lewis ordered Hansen back on the ballot on September 12th 2014), and that the Court order Fawkes to show cause why she should not be held in contempt of court for violating the Court’s order. VI Action Group Inc. could not help but notice there are number of documents that are “sealed” in the Supreme Court case along with the District Court case . The contempt of Court hearing against Supervisor of Election Caroline Fawkes is scheduled for 9:30AM Wednesday September 24th 2014 at the Superior Court, Kings Hill St.Croix. Judge Douglas Brady will be presiding. Hansen could be heard on her radio program stating “if I going home, everybody going home with me” .
