The old Jamaican phrase "You can not stop a running tree” is definitely applicable to the Rotterdam based Ska band Phoenix City Retaliators. They even made a song about it. Their roots are deeply embedded in the Dutch ska scene (Zwit, Monkey Manners, Ollie Q. & The Deep Six) In an amazingly short time they developed a sound of their very own, a raw, rebellious and dynamic sound. A bold musical sauce, with emphasis on solid danceable rhythms, supported by effective horns, sometimes a tearing organ sound and lots of polyphonic singing. Influences from surf, soul and old punkrock are clearly discernible, but their love and respect for the authentic Jamaican ska, calypso, rocksteady, early-reggae and dub is always apparent.

They have been doing shows since 2012 and their contagious Jamaican dance music hasn't gone unnoticed. They played at Bevrijdingsfestival Zuid-Holland and opened shows for legendary bands like: David Hillyard and the Rocksteady Seven, Mark Foggo, The Slackers, Jaya the Cat and the Toasters.
