Thanksgiving Turkey should ideally be thawed whilst still in its original plastic wrapper. Defrosting turkey at room temperature is an absolute no-no. Instead, place your still-wrapped turkey in the rear of the refrigerator, which is the coldest part. Always place a large enough tray under the turkey to catch the melted ice and juices that are likely to leak.
