He's been teaching art for the past 10 years. Although his passion is to teach the beautiful world of art as he puts it to his students, Marc knows no boundaries when it comes to human rights violations and it reflects in his paintings that he draws from Syrian human catastrophe to the suffering of political prisoners on hunger strike in Gohardasht prison in Iran. Marc believes we shouldn't just watch human suffering around the world and should break the silence and do something about it. He emphasis's on today's world of social networks as a tool for artists, to protest the unjust. I was so honoured that he found the time out of his busy schedule to talk to me about his art and the positive role an artist can play. • Untold story of Mahmood(Masood) Hassani one of Iran's 30,000 political prisoners executed in summer of 1988
Untold story of Mahmood(Masood) Hassani one of Iran's 30,000 political prisoners executed in summer of 1988 Radio Irava with Sara Hassani Canadian PHD and researcher. Link on Irava's FB page: http://tiny.cc/t0o21x Link on YouTube: http://tiny.cc/j6m21x link on SoundCloud: http://tiny.cc/cml21x Link on CNN iReport: http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-1264414 Link on yourListen: http://tiny.cc/06m21x The summer of 1988 is truly the darkest times in modern Iranian history. Some 30,000 political prisoners were executed under the direct and written order or Fatwa of Ayatollah Khomeini. The massacre is described as a political purge without precedent in modern Iranian history, both in terms of scope and cover up. Many of the prisoners were serving their prison terms and many were near the end of their sentences and were supposed to be freed. The massacre of political prisoners lasted a few weeks and their lifeless bodies were left inside unmarked mass graves in different cities and towns. The majority of the victims belonged to the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran or PMOI. Number of individuals who belonged to lefties and other groups were also executed. The PMOI exposed this political genocide for the first time in the same year just a few months after the massacre. Evey year the Iranian dissidents around the world commemorate those brave souls for they were taken from somebody's parents, sister, brother, son and daughter, aunt, uncle, classmate, colleague or teacher.... My guest today is Sara Hassani whose uncle Mahmood was executed during 1988 massacre. Sara is a PhD student in Politics who studies middle eastern resistance and self-sacrifice. Sara is a Canadian of Iranian descent and never met her uncle, but as you will hear, you would agree with me that how much Mahmood Hassani's life and death has affected his niece's view of the world around her. http://www.sarahassani-thepolitical.com// http://www.radioirava.com/

  • Struan Stevenson's book: Self-Sacrifice- Life with the Iranian Mojahedin
Struan Stevenson's book: Self-Sacrifice- Life with the Iranian Mojahedin Mr. Struan Stevenson is an author and the conservative member of European Parliament for Scotland from 1999-2014 who became an active supporter of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, while the West had them listed as a terrorist organization. Struan Stevenson soon realized that the Iranian regime was spending a great deal of time and resources aimed at keeping the PMOI on international terrorist blacklists when he decided to expose Iranian regime's propaganda machine. As difficult as it was Mr. Stevenson helped the successful campaign to have the PMOI removed from the US, UK and EU terrorist blacklists. Despite threats to him and his family and warnings even from his own government, he was able to persuade others to be the voice of justice for the Iranian Mojahedin, prominent personalities such as Paulo Casaca former Member of the European Parliament for Portugal until 1999-2009 and Alejo Vidal-Quadras, Vice-Presidents of the European Parliament. I had the honor and opportunity to talk to Mr. Stevenson about his recent book called: SELF-SACRIFICE - Life with the Iranian Mojahedin in which he recounts the moment he made his decision to defend the rights of Iranian Mojahedin. • Deteriorating situation of Christians in Iran since Hassan Rouhani took office
Deteriorating situation of Christians in Iran since Hassan Rouhani took office My guest today is a young Iranian/American Christian student and Human Rights activist who talks about the situations of Christians in Iran in 2014. I'm often amazed and impressed by the new Iranian generation outside Iran. I think there's a misperception about the new generation of Iranians outside the country. People may think of them as a generation that wants to have fun all the time and is buried in its cell phone and don't care about anything. My guest Donya Akhavan is a political Science student in US and although she wasn't born in Iran, she loves and respects Iran so much so that she calls herself Iranian. Her parents fled Iran after witnessing the atrocities against Christians after Ayatollah Khomenei took over the People's 1979 Revolution. Donya's family like millions of other Iranians became a refugee over night before arriving to US. Donya has never been in Iran but her activism for a free Iran continues on. www.radioirava.com www.women.ncr-iran.org
