Of all the films ever to be voted as Movie of the Month – and bear in mind this is a list that contains the likes of Southland Tales, The Shape of Things, Night of the Comet, Upstream Color and the Airport franchise – this is possibly the most unlikely choice to ever garner an entire podcast devoted to it.
1987’s The Chipmunk Movie, the first feature-length outing of Alvin, Simon, Theodore, Britney and whatever the other two female chipmunks are called, sees the Chipmunks and the Chipettes take on a round-the-world hot air balloon race integrated with diamond smuggling and song-and-dance routines. Needless to say, we had a lot to discuss, starting with the basics of chipmunk design and biology, heading through the various degrees of animal sentience proposed by the film and all the way up to the point where, as usual, Vern revealed far too much information.
As the film’s champion, Kristen Lopez headed up the feature discussion, and was joined by Jay, Vern, Nicole and Robert. There’s also a round of Rants and Raves of the Week, plus a couple of games of Last Lamb Standing.
Unsurprisingly, no reviews were submitted by the rest of the LAMB for The Chipmunk Adventure. This is totally expected, understandable and preferred.
