Malayalam Album: Avanithennal(1988)
Music : K J Yesudas
Lyrics : Yousef Ali Kecheri
Singer : K J Yesudas
Cover : Krishnadas P

This is a non-film song, composed and sung by Sri. K J Yesudas himself for the Malayalam Album `Avanithennal’.

In this song, a Keralite man, who is working abroad to earn his livelihood, leaving behind his family at home, is expressing his sad feelings that he is unable to reach home even for Onam festival. Onam is the traditional festival of Kerala celebrated in Aug / Sep in commemoration of home-coming of the king Mahabali, who is believed to rule Kerala in ancient times.

A rough translation is given below:

Far away…. Far away….
Far away is Kerala. Can you go and come ?
With my love message, oh breeze, can you go and come?
There in front of every house, you can see floral decorations
But in my home alone you will see drops of tears (Far away is Kerala…

You can see the land which welcomes Mahabali
And you can see the house where my darling is waiting for me,
Thinking of her husband who had left home for earning the livelihood,
With tears on her cheeks, you can see my wife
You can see my wife…. (Far away is Kerala…

On Onam day all children are in happy mood,
But my dear son alone is gloomy
“I want my father with me for lunch today”, when he says,
Next to him, serving tears, You can see my wife
You can see my wife… (Far away is Kerala…
Far away…. Far away…..
