EU reiterates its support for the independence of the ICC

Ambassador Lodewijk Briet, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Kenya has said the European Union is committed in the support and advancement of the Rome Statute, the independence of the ICC and cooperation with the court.

He further reiterated that they support local resolutions and accountability mechanisms that ensure justice for victims.

Speaking on his behalf, Julien Bouzon, the Head of Macroeconomics, Governance & Private Sector Development Section noted that they will continue supporting organisations supporting human rights issues and the rule of law.

He was speaking during the Journalists' forum held in Nairobi on 25 November 2014. The theme of the forum was: "Options for accountability for international crimes in Africa."
