  • Khilte Hain Gul Yahan....cover by Harish
Khilte Hain Gul Yahan....cover by Harish On August 15, I woke up and first thing came to my lips is the song “Khilte Hain Gul Yahan”. I have never sang this famous song before, I am sure every hard core Kishore Da fan has attempted at some point. I went on YT watched this song few times and recorded same day. Then called Muzaffar bhai, he gave me some pointers for specific nuances, that helped me for final take. Thanks to Muzaffar bhai for his help and support at all times. It is a lovely song, with sweet lyrics about love, but using elements of nature to express love. This is typical of Neeraj, one of my favorite poets and song-writers. He made a great team with SD Burman. I hope you will enjoy my cover. Movie: Sharmilee (1971) Lyrics: Neeraj Music: S.D. Burman Original Singer: Kishore Kumar

  • Samne Ye Kaun Aaya...Remembering Kishore Da_Cover by Harish
Samne Ye Kaun Aaya...Remembering Kishore Da_Cover by Harish This is my tribute to Kishore da on his birthday August 4th. I used to sing this song in college days, playing desk as drum. After college days this is first time I sang and recorded to give the legend a tribute. A fan of KL Saigal, Kishore followed his elder brothers Ashok and Anoop in the industry. While Kishore was aping the style of Saigal and wanted to make it big as a singer in the industry, Ashok was adamant that he will act and not sing. With Talat Mehmood, Mukesh and Mohammed Rafi established as singers, Ashok felt Kishore would not be able to make his mark. He was also worried that Kishore didn’t have any formal training in singing or music. However, Kishore disliked acting. His first few films flopped and then he decided to act so badly that nobody will cast him. Kishore’s decision to perform badly became his calling card and audience’s started loving him for it. A hero who made the people laugh as opposed to principled and romantic actors of the age – that was Kishore Kumar for fans. Kishore’s big break in music came when SD Burman realised his potential. Burman visited Kishore’s house when he was in bath, yodelling. After he finished bathing, Burman told Kishore to stop aping Saigal and develop his own style. He even gave a name to Kishore’s yodeling: “ GALA TOD KAR GANA”. Soon, Kishore was among Bollywood’s busiest stars – singing, acting, directing and producing! I hope you will enjoy this cover! Movie: Jawani Diwani (1972) Singer: Kishore Kumar Lyricists: Anand Bakshi Music: Rahul Dev Burman

  • Ehsaan Tera Hoga....Tribue to Rafi Sahab by Harish
Ehsaan Tera Hoga....Tribue to Rafi Sahab by Harish This is my tribute to the legendary singer Mohammad Rafi. He died on 31 July 1980 at the age of 55 of a massive heart attack. It was fate that initiated Mohammed Rafi's rise to stardom. One time he and his brother Hamid went to attend a performance by the renown K.L. Saigal. Unfortunately the power went off. K.L.Saigal refused to sing without the benefit of the sound system. The audience was getting agitated losing their patience; whereupon Hamid persuaded the organizers to allow Rafi to sing for them until the power was restored. The organizers readily agreed, so he sang for them. It just so happened that the great composer and music director Shyam Sunder was in the audience. He was very impressed by the young Rafi. Shyam Sundar invited Mohammed Rafi to sing for one of his films. So it was in 1944 at the age of 20,that Rafi sang for his first film. It was the song Soniye Hiriye, Teri Yaad Ne Bahut Sataya, for the Punjabi film "Gul Baloch". This brought Mohammad Rafi to the attention of other music directors. I have chosen this song as this is one of Shankar Jaikishan’s masterpiece for Shammi Kapoor and Rafi Sahab. I hope you will enjoy listening my cover. Film: Junglee (1961) Singer: Mohammad Rafi Lyricist: Hasrat Jaipuri Music: Shankar-Jaikishan

  • Tere Labon Ke Muqabil...cover by Harish
Tere Labon Ke Muqabil...cover by Harish Today remembering one of the most legendary singers, Mukesh, on his 93rd birthday. Today is his 70th wedding anniversary too. Mukesh and his wife Saral celebrated their thirtieth wedding anniversary on 22 July 1976, four days before his departure for the USA to perform concerts, where he died of a heart attack. I want to share his most precious private ghazal. This ghazal was introduced to me by Muzaffar bhai and he requested me to cover this last year. Recently when I found the track and recorded it. The lyricist of this ghazal is Shiv Kumar Saroj. He used to be an announcer at Radio Cylone. He was a poet of standing. Some of his lyrics found place in movies as well. Mukesh listened to some of his poems and offered to sing the same. When a serenade like this one is sung this sweetly by a man to his beloved, would she not consider herself blessed with the ultimate treasure in her life and melt into his arms? What more can one say? …….Beautifully sung by Mukesh! I hope you will enjoy my cover! Non Filmi Song Sung By: Mukesh Music Director: Kishore Desai Lyrics: Shiv Kumarr Saroj Cover by: Harish

  • Sajanwa Bairi Ho Gaye Hamar....cover by Harish
Sajanwa Bairi Ho Gaye Hamar....cover by Harish In 1961 Shailendra invested heavily in the production of the movie Teesri Kasam (1966), directed by Basu Bhattacharya and starring Raj Kapoor and Waheeda Rehman. The film took many years to complete. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film. However, the film was a commercial failure. In time, the film came to be regarded as a classic. Critics felt Raj Kapoor delivered one of the most sensitive performances of his career. While recording this cover there was lot of things Muzaffar bha and I discussed about the lyrics, and that’s how we did the translation to understand the song. I know there are few errors that you might notice but this best I could do to cover this song. I hope you will enjoy listening to my attempt. English Translations of Lyrics: Sajanwa bairi ho gaye hamaar..........My love has become my enemy... Sajanwa bairi ho gaye hamaar………….. My love has turned against me Chitthiyaan ho to har koi baache……… If it was a letter, I would read it Bhaag na baache koi……………. But no one can read fate Karamwaa bairi ho gaye hamar……….Even my actions have turned against me Jaye base pardes sajanwa sautan ke bharmaaye... My love has gone far away and has settled with another woman... Na sandes na koi khabariya rut aaye rut jaaye… There has been no news from him; the seasons come and go Doob gaye hum beech bhanwar mein…… I'm drowning now in a whirlpool Karke sola par………… After swimming through the worst part Sajanwa bairi ho gaye hamar……………….My love has turned into my enemy Sooni sej god mori sooni maram na jaane koi......My bed is empty, my lap is lonely. No one knows how to soothe me. Chhatpat tadpe preet bichari mamta aansoon roye…. My unfortunate love for him tortures me; I shed tears of maternal love. Na koi is paar hamaara….. There is no one on this side of the shore to call my own. Na koi us paar…… There is no one on that side Karamwaa bairi ho gaye hamar……….Even my actions have turned against me Sajanwa bairi ho gaye hamar………..My love has betrayed me. Movie: Teesri Kasam (1966) Lyrics; Shailendra Music: Shankar Jaikishan Original Singer: Mukesh .
