Parents and Guardians of scholars currently studying abroad under the River State Government scholarship have rejected the idea proposed by the Rivers State Government to relocate their children/wards back to Nigeria to finish their education.

Speaking at a meeting convened by the Rivers State Government on 2nd December 2015, Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon Onimim Jack, gave some reasons for the decision. “…When the children left the dollar was at 150, and presently it’s at 240…” She said. The Commissioner for Agriculture also noted that the current government inherited debt owed from the 2013/2014 session, and has managed to pay up till the current session, and thus can no longer fund the programme.

“We will pay up the fees for all final year students in instalments, and all others will be brought back to Nigeria to complete their education…”, Mrs Jacks stated

In this podcast you’ll notice that after the Commissioner’s statement, three parents were given the opportunity to respond but sadly there was no feedback from the Rivers State Government on the reservations raised by the parents. The commissioner eventually called for a closing prayer which was met with refusal from the parents, and the meeting eventually ended in pandemonium.
