Introduction to Training

700 21 2 December 11, 2017

Welcome to Todai Bujinkan Dojo!

Congratulations! This marks the beginning of your journey. We are excited to have you part of the Todai Clan, and look forward to being your guides on this new adventure.

What is Mukyu?

You are currently at Mukyu or “no level”. This simply means you have no knowledge of the system and have no official rank yet. This is signified by wearing a white belt. In older Japanese training, this meant you were something similar to a “trial student” of a dojo. You would wear a white belt until you were formally accepted into the dojo by the teacher.

What should I be focusing on?

While you are ultimately in charge of what you want to learn, we have suggestions on what to focus on at each rank.

At this stage of your training, you should simply be learning how to be a student. This mainly involves becoming acclimated to the training environment, understanding basic etiquette and terminology, and very basic movements.

The rest of this section covers the basics of being a student.
