+++ Title: "Blind Bartimeus"
+++ Speaker: Steve Wilber
+++ Date: July 25, 1984 PM
+++ Venue: Pinecrest Summer Bible Conference

+++ Remarks:

+++- Discussion of circular vs. linear time. Abraham began walking on a linear path through history after God broke his circle. The prison-house of existence; the human predicament.

+++- 22 min - When Simeon held Jesus, he cradled the entire Kingdom of God in his arms and prophesied.

+++- 25 min - testimony about John G Lake and the pygmy tribe in Africa for which he prayed.

+++- 26 min - It was precisely the religious crowd following Jesus that rebuked the blind beggar seeking mercy. Before Jesus fed the multitude, these same people had wanted to send them away empty.

+++- 33 min - Testimony about Velmer Gardiner praying back the grasshopper plague from the wheat farm. The insects died in a pile at the man's property line, whereas all of his neighbors were wiped out.

+++- Other testimonies from the early Pentecostal movement.

+++- 36 min - The Ball Company ... their glass jar factory was completely undamaged during the San Francisco fire and earthquake. NOT ONE JAR lost nor damaged! Mr. Ball was a Christian.

+++- 45 min - The Gospel: "Be of good comfort, He calleth thee."

+++- 51 min - Steve's view of church offerings: When you ask God, you're praying. When you ask man, you're begging (Like Bartimeus). C.T. Studd's organization has yet to take up their first offering. "Prayer differs from begging in that it's THANKFUL." "Begging is a JOYLESS thing; it humiliates you."

+++- 57 min - Bartimeus CAST AWAY his garment. Put off the old man. Put on the new man. Your old gaments are saturated with the flavor of the old life.

+++- All of the onlookers gave praise unto God when they saw the blind man healed.

+++- 62 min - Steve comes right out and calls it a "nineteenth century altar call".

+++- 64 min - The sound of the congregation coming together and praying in 1984. (Where has this vigor and vitality gone?)

+++- 76 min - Prayer has switched over to worship. Anthems in the Spirit ... we don't hear this anymore either, perhaps due to microphones. The voice of many waters (the bride) is no longer heard, except in old recordings. We're slick and refined now; meetings are produced in a professional manner.

+++- 80 min - Back to prayer. Steve says, "The mystical principle is that short prayers penetrate heaven. I want to pray short prayers."

+++- This is a good example of a prayer meeting. A snapshot of a "training center" in action. Prayer still going strong when the tape runs out at 90 minutes.
