It is an age-old human tradition that the birthright with its privileges and blessings belongs to the firstborn son, but on various occasions God overruled this tradition. He is not bound or governed by human institutions, however He does honour the firstborn son. This is not to be understood in terms of 'male chauvinism'. The Bible points us to Jesus Christ - the eternal Son of God. As such, He may be said to be the 'firstborn' son. The apostle Paul says "in Christ Jesus there is neither male or female". The mystery of the crossed arms gradually unfolds and is resolved 'In Christ'.
