The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a traditional book. The primary character, Hester, is titled as an adulterer in seventeenth century Boston, because her husband has not arrive to Boston, and yet Hester has a little girl known as Pearl. Hester is compelled to put on a scarlet "A" throughout her chest, and is actually shunned by the rest of the settlement. Privately, Hester's husband is under cover as Mr. Chillingworth and is compelled to have retribution for Hester's unfaithfulness. As soon as he discovers the fact that the minister Mr. Dimmesdale is Pearl's dad, Chillingworth does all he can to boost the tension and self-hating of Mr. Dimmesdale.
