This week's episode is all about the 'session musician' In particular, feature 'The Wrecking Crew' in the first part of the show. There's music from Johnny Rivers (California Dreamin') and The Ronettes (Be My Baby). As well as this, we take a look at who they were, what musicians they worked with, and the recent documentary about their story. Great stuff.
In the second half of the show, and still on a bit of Wrecking Crew theme, we feature the inimitable Dr. John. We go through his colourful career to date and how his truly unique sound is still a major influence. Moving on, there's the story of Bobby Keys. Keys, until recently, played sax with The Rolling Stones. As well as playing a great live version of 'Brown Sugar', we also recall how Bobby and Keef enjoyed the rock'n'roll lifestyle to the full. Closing the show, David Bowie's 'Modern Love' from the Let's Dance album. The song featured Stevie Ray Vaughn, Tony Thompson on drums, Carmine Rojas on bass...some of the best session guys. Play them all loud.
Enjoy the show.
