The song was introduced by Harry Richman and Gertrude Lawrence in the 1930 Broadway show Lew Leslie's International Revue which also featured McHugh and Fields's "On the Sunny Side of the Street".
The song was featured in the opening credits of the 1982 black comedy film Eating Raoul. It was famously performed by Tom Jones on The Morecambe and Wise Show in 1971, with Eric and Ernie as backing singers ("Yeah Yeah Yeah!").
