Desmond Mokgubo was the sole South African finisher in the marathon at the London World championships 2017.
Although having to leave the field for a break, the tough runner hung in and was rewarded with a top 25 place which will add his name to the lucrative IAAF Gold label list for the next two years. This will have major impact on his earning and racing potential.
Mokgubo was adamant that the government and federation must do more to support marathoners if there is to be an improvement in the standard.
His 2:16:14 was not particularly fast, but it earned 21st place
