MR LUB, born Luzuko Bawuti, originally from Eastern Cape, Queenstown. He was born in 1992 in Cape Town, he is the first born of 3. He passed his Matric in 2010 and enrolled for Journalis and Media Studies in Damelin College,2011. He finished his diploma in 2013 and now he’s working as Production Admin Assistant at Associated Media Publishing.
MR LUB started his music journey at a very young age, but started writing his own songs in 2006 inspired specifically by local kwaito artists, Zola, Ibutho and Drencko, Drenckolizer. In 2008 he moved back to Cape Town and started recording, but he wasn’t impressed with the way he sounded and wasn’t impressed by the production on his tracks therefore he started his record label, Old Centiners in 2009.
From 2009 to 2015 he was busy studying music through listening to other artist in an attempt to discover his own style. He started recording his track officially in 2015 and was proud of his production. 98% of his music is English and 2 % is in his native tongue “Xhosa”. He doesn’t believe in rapping in colloquial language.
He is every selective on who he listens to in SA Hip Hop, for personal reasons. International he listens to Migos, Eminem, Royce 5’9, Scarface, Coca Vango, Macklemore and Troy Ave. He listens to every genre of SA local music from Gospel, Maskandi to Jazz.
He signed 5 artists under his label “Old Centiners Records” and he is performing around Cape Town. He hasn’t made any major break through as of yet, however the quality of his music is on another level.
Most importantly he has no intentions of signing to any record label.
