About:

Ian Forrest is a broadcast journalist with over 18 years of radio work under his belt.
He began his career as a youth commentarist on the worlds 1st all reggae radio station, Irie FM doing, “Young Voices”. From there he moved onto what became one of Jamaica’s top flight news magazine and current affairs programs, Nationwide, where he cut his teeth at reporting and producing. Ever the scholar, Forrest returned to school to read for a Masters in International business, on the completion of which, he decided to start his own business, MavCom Media, a content house to produce initially, short pieces for radio. 2 series emerged from that venture, “Freeda and Morty” on Nationwide, Hot 102 and subsequently, RJR, and the other, “Motivations” on KLAS FM.

On the tragic loss of a friend and mentor and with some disillusionment about the media landscape in Jamaica, Ian set sail for New York in 2002 where, he’s been with WBAI 99.5 FM ever since!

He’s reported nationally for Free Speech Radio News, locally for WBAI’s Evening News, internationally for the BBC Caribbean Service....is a mean Host in his own right, a competent Producer of live and recorded programs (in and out of studio) and is a competent live radio Engineer.

Ian’s current work can be heard on WBAI at 99.5 on the FM band in the NY Tri-state at www.wbai.org. An archive of his work can also be found at that website as well as on www.yourlisten.com/connections . On Facebook you can befriend him at www.facebook.com/stmaryian. Emailing him is easy, you can find him at caribbeandialogue@yahoo.com

Connections with Ian Forrest 012516 Reggae's sound has spread far and wide and it should come as a surprise to no one that some of its big names aren't Jamaican at all - though from their own style and flavoring of the music you wouldn't know. Connections in the first hour feature a good few. In the 2nd Hour, its a timely conversation with 3 of the 20th century's biggest names in literature, Langston Hughes, James Baldwin and Lorraine Hansberry on the Black contribution to American Culture, timely especially when many question if that contribution particularly to film was overlooked for the 2nd year running with the hashtag "OscarsSoWhite".

Connections with Ian Forrest 122815 Connections comes out of 2015 in a bouncy celebratory groove. The music is irie and the conversations are encouraging. Its a show celebrating long time friendships and finding camaraderie again with people from a past lifetime. In the mix is a reasoning with disabled senior, Claire Reid, who is the epitome of making the most of an otherwise bad situation. Another is with young lawyer-in-training, Yannica Gabbidon, organizer of a law school group project which visited and shared legal education with seniors at Jamaica's National Council for Senior Citizens. Also too, Richard Pryor and Dave Chappelle keep it real and funny tackling the issue of black people and their relations with the police. It will be well worth your listen.
