The second Digital Leaders Annual Lecture was delivered by Rayid Ghani, former Chief Scientist for the Obama for America presidential campaign and a leader in the use of data and social media. Rayid Ghani is widely feted in the US press as one the brains behind one of the most successful online and data driven presidential campaigns to date. Rayid passionately explained how he used data during Obama’s successful presidential campaign and reviewed how these techniques can be applied by government and civil society as well in UK elections. The chair, Tristan Wilkinson, drew out key areas from Rayid’s unique perspective on recent events in the US and invited VIP panel to respond to the lecture and have a short panel debate. Together with Andrew Miller, the panel included Adam Afriyie MP and Adam Conner, Manager for Public Policy, Facebook’s Washington DC office.
